Why did in-form Vaibhav Suryavanshi not get batting in the Super Over?

In any team, it is expected from the captain that in difficult situations, he should come forward and take charge of the team and save the team with his performance. But not only courage and enthusiasm are required, but it is also important to adopt the right strategy. India A captain Jitesh Sharma tried his best to play the first part but completely missed the second part. In the semi-finals of Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025, India A had to face defeat at the hands of Bangladesh in the Super Over. While this defeat disappointed the fans, it also surprised everyone because the team did not field in-form young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi to bat in the Super Over.

The first semi-final of the tournament was played between India A and Bangladesh A on Friday 21 November in Doha. Batting first, the Bangladeshi team scored an excellent score of 194 runs. In response, Team India could only score 194 runs and the match was tied. Then the decision was taken in the Super Over and here, surprising everyone, captain Jitesh Sharma and Naman Dheer came out from the Indian side. This decision shocked everyone because it was expected that Vaibhav should be sent.

Jitesh batted first in the super over but he was bowled on the very first ball. Then new batsman Ashutosh Sharma came and he was out on the second ball of the over. In this way, Team India's Super Over ended with the loss of two wickets in 2 overs and it could not score a single run. Bangladesh needed one run and despite losing the wicket on the first ball, they won the match due to getting a wide ball on the next ball.

India A was out of the tournament after losing the semi-finals, but more than this defeat, everyone was surprised by the decision of not sending Vaibhav in the Super Over. This young batsman of only 14 years had already created a stir in the tournament with his explosive batting. Facing only 98 balls in 4 innings of this Asia Cup, he had scored a maximum of 239 runs, which included 22 sixes. Even in the semi-finals, Vaibhav had given a fast start by scoring 38 runs in just 15 balls. In such a situation, it would have been better if Vaibhav, who was in great form, was sent out to bat.

But why did Captain Jitesh and the team management take such a strange decision? Jitesh Sharma revealed this after the match was over. Answering the question about not sending Vaibhav, he said that Vaibhav and Priyansh Arya generally bat well in the powerplay, whereas he and Ashutosh Sharma have been more effective in the death overs. Jitesh said that for this reason he and the team management had taken this decision. Now, whatever may have been the team's thinking, the decision of not fielding a batsman who was in good form proved to be harmful for it.
