Olive oil and other natural oils have their own benefits. It is very good to do oil abhyajan in winter, but very few people know which oil is more beneficial to use in winter. In Ayurveda, sesame oil has been said to be most beneficial in winters, which not only protects the skin but also helps in joint pain.
Sesame oil is not just an oil, but a natural body armor for winter. Along with keeping the body safe, it keeps the body warm, nourishes the skin and helps in keeping it young. Besides, it also provides relief from pain in muscles and joints. It is believed in Ayurveda that sesame oil reduces Vata that increases in winter, which causes arthritis, joint pain and insomnia. In such a situation, if Abhyanga is done with sesame oil, one can get relief from all these problems.
It is believed in Ayurveda that sesame oil is so effective that as soon as it is applied on the skin, it crosses seven layers of the skin and shows its effect deep inside. It is rich in sesamol, celamin and vitamin E, which naturally nourishes the skin. This reduces dryness of the skin, wrinkles and cracks on the skin in winter. Sesamol and Selamin together nourish the skin from within.
Sesame oil has been used in Indian culture for years because it protects from the UV rays present in the sun. It works like sunscreen on our body. With its use a thin layer is formed on the skin. This layer remains on the body for 24 hours and protects the skin. Neither coconut oil nor olive oil has such ability. Use of sesame oil strengthens the bones. The problem of joint pain and arthritis increases in winter. In such a situation, Abhyanga with sesame oil in the morning and evening is beneficial.
