WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature to make group chats smarter. Android users will now be able to add a unique tag to their name, making it easier to understand each member's role in the group. Let's explore how this new feature works.
WhatsApp is constantly working on new features to improve group communication. Recently, WhatsApp introduced the beta version of the 'Group Member Tags' feature for Android users. This feature allows each group member to add a custom tag to their name, reflecting their role, work, or interests. The tag is limited to 30 characters and can be used in new or existing groups. Currently, this feature is only available to select beta testers.
Who will determine the tag and who can change it?
The unique feature of this feature is that users will be able to control their own tags. Group administrators will not have any control over this. This means that each member can add, change, or remove tags based on their needs and group. For example, a member can add information like 'Coach', 'Project Manager', 'Designer', or 'Moderator' to their tag. This will clarify each member's role in larger groups or professional teams and make group conversations more organized.
What rules will apply to this feature?
However, some rules have been implemented. Special symbols, clickable links, or checkmarks will not be allowed in tags. Tags can only be added with 30 characters. This way, WhatsApp aims to ensure that groups are free of inappropriate or unnecessary comments and that all members can easily identify each other's roles. Once a tag is created, it will be limited to that group and will not be visible in other chats or global WhatsApp settings.
How to add a tag?
This feature is quite easy for users. If you're in the beta program, open WhatsApp on your Android device, open the group you want to add a tag to, go to the group info page, and tap your name. Then, enter the tag and click 'Save.' Your tag will be immediately visible to all group members. This feature may be rolled out to all Android users in the future, making group communication even smarter and easier.
