WhatsApp Voice Message Transcripts: WhatsApp keeps bringing new features for its users. Now WhatsApp has brought another useful feature. WhatsApp has launched the Voice Message Transcripts feature, which allows users to read voice messages in text format without listening to them.

This is a very useful feature. This feature is very helpful in situations when you are in a noisy place and it is difficult to hear voice messages, in a meeting or class and listening to the audio is not possible or you do not have earphones or you are talking to someone who has difficulty hearing.

The entire process of transcription takes place on the device itself.

According to WhatsApp, the entire process of transcription takes place on the device itself. This means that the voice message remains end-to-end encrypted. Obviously WhatsApp or third parties cannot access your audio or transcript. This feature is available on Android and iOS platforms. This feature converts what is said in a voice message into text that you can read right below the audio message.

How to turn on the feature?

Usually this feature is optional, so it may have to be turned on manually.

How can you turn on this feature on your phone?

  • First of all, open WhatsApp in your mobile and go to Settings.
  • Then tap on Chats.
  • Scroll down and turn on Voice Message Transcripts.
  • After this you can choose the transcription language of your choice.
  • Now when you receive a voice message, tap and hold on it i.e. long press.
  • Select the Transcribe option in the menu that appears.
  • Within a few seconds, the text of the voice message will appear below your message.
  • You can expand or collapse this message.

Available in multiple languages

This feature was initially available only in some languages like English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian. But now it is slowly being rolled out for other languages including Hindi. If a transcript does not appear, the voice message language may not be supported or there may be too much background noise. For iPhone users, arrangements are being made so that this feature can support many more languages in iOS 16 and 17.
