Vehicles in the electric segment are gaining increasing demand in India. Due to which many auto companies in the country are offering powerful electric cars. Mahindra, the country’s leading SUV manufacturer, has also offered electric SUVs in the market.

Mahindra has launched its electric SUV, the XEV 9S in India, with a starting price of ₹ 19.95 lakh (ex-showroom). It is the third electric SUV in the company’s Born Electric series. The Mahindra XEV 9S sits between the BE 6 and the XEV 9e. While the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9e look sportier, the Mahindra XEV 9S is a more family-friendly electric SUV. Moreover, it is available in several variants. Being the first all-electric three-row seven-seater electric SUV, the Mahindra XEV 9S will essentially be an all-electric version of the powerful Mahindra XUV 700. But, which SUV is better between Mahindra XEV 9S and Mahindra XEV 9e? Let’s find out about it.

Price

The Mahindra XEV 9S is priced between Rs 19.95 lakh and Rs 29.45 lakh (ex-showroom). So the base variant of the XEV 9S ‘pack one above’ is ₹1.95 lakh more economical than the base variant of the XEV 9e (₹21.50 lakh, ex-showroom). Also, the top-end trim of the XEV 9S is also cheaper than the top-spec trim of the XEV 9e by around Rs 1 lakh.

Exterior

The XEV 9e is a coupe SUV, while the XEV 9S has a more traditional SUV design. The XEV 9S looks more similar to the XUV700 than the XEV 9e. The XEV 9S gets larger alloy wheels compared to the 18-inch wheels on the XEV 9e. There is also a significant difference in the rear design. The XEV 9S gets a rear wiper with washer, which is not available in the XEV 9e.

The taillights are also different

• XEV 9e – Inverted U-shaped connected LED taillight
• XEV 9S – Split LED taillights, with a similar design to the XUV700

In terms of color options, the XEV 9S lacks the Deep Forest and Tango Red shades, which are available in the XEV 9e. But the XEV 9S gets a new Desert Mist colour.

Interior

Although the cabin layout of the XEV 9S and XEV 9e is fairly similar, there is a major difference between the two SUVs in the rear seating.

• XEV 9e – 5-seater SUV with two rows

The XEV 9e features sliding and ventilated second-row seats, powered boss mode, and a panoramic sunroof, making the XEV 9S more premium and family-friendly.

If you want a large, comfortable and 7-seater electric SUV for the family, the Mahindra XEV 9S is a great choice. If you want a sporty design, coupe-style SUV look and premium styling, Mahindra XEV 9e is for you.
