News India Live, Digital Desk: In Bollywood, we know Aamir Khan as ‘Mr. Perfectionist’. We believe that behind every film of his there is a lot of planning, an amazing mind and years of hard work. Looking at the success of his films, it seems that he has some ‘secret formula’ for success. But, if Aamir Khan tells you that he himself does not know how he became a star? You probably wouldn’t believe it, right? But during a recent conversation, Aamir has expressed his feelings in a similar manner. He candidly confessed that he did not follow any path to become a star, rather he followed the wrong path! “I broke all the rules.” Recalling the old things, Aamir said that when he started his career, there were some ‘unwritten rules’ to become a hero. “You had to do 3-4 films a year, had to be seen everywhere, and masala films. Had to choose.” But what did Aamir do? He did exactly the opposite. He says, “I have always been impractical. I never took decisions from the mind. I did films which people considered risky. I disappeared for a long time many times. By law, my career should have ended, but it did not happen.” Think not of the mind, but of the heart, a film like ‘Lagaan’ in which there is cricket for half the time and the villagers are roaming around wearing dhoti – that At that time no star could even think of doing such a film. Or ‘Taare Zameen Par’, which was the story of a dyslexic child. Aamir says his choices were always “unrealistic”. He chose what he liked and not what was guaranteed to be a hit at the box office. Then how did he achieve success? Aamir gives the credit of this entire success not to his smartness but to the audience. He says very humbly that perhaps it was his good luck or God’s mercy that his ‘strange’ choice touched the hearts of people. He says, “I am lucky that the kind of stories I liked, coincidentally you (the public) also liked the same stories. Had it not been so, I would not have been a star today.” Real Lesson: This statement of Aamir is a lesson for all of us. Too often we follow the crowd and do what “everyone else is doing.” But Aamir Khan’s journey shows that if you love your work and follow your heart, you can make your own rules.
