Banks will remain closed for 18 days in December! Know when your banks will not open

If you are thinking of doing banking work in December 2025, then be careful, because a long list of bank holidays is ready this month. Banks will not open on festivals like Christmas, Goa Liberation Day, State Foundation Day as well as on every Sunday and second-fourth Saturday. Overall, banks will remain closed for 18 days in December, due to which transactions and important banking operations may come to a halt. If you are also planning to go to the bank, then read this list first so that you do not face any kind of problem.

Why and when will banks remain closed?

Bank holidays in India vary from state to state. These include national, regional and religious holidays. Christmas is the biggest festival in December, on which banks across the country remain closed. Apart from this, every Sunday and the second and fourth Saturday of every month are also banking holidays.

There will be special holidays in these states

  • 1 December: In Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, banks will remain closed on State Foundation Day and Indigenous Faith Day.
  • 3 December: Holiday in Goa due to St. Francis Xavier festival.
  • 12 December: Holiday on the death anniversary of freedom fighter Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma in Meghalaya.
  • 18 December: Banks will remain closed in Meghalaya on the occasion of the death anniversary of famous Khasi poet U Soso Tham.
  • 19 December: Banking services will remain closed in Goa on Goa Liberation Day.
  • 20 and 22 December: Banks will not open in Sikkim due to Losung/Namsung festival.
  • 24-27 December: In Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya, queues form during holidays before and after Christmas.
  • 30 December: Death anniversary of freedom fighter U Kiang Nangbah in Meghalaya.
  • 31 December: Banking break in Aizawl and Imphal on New Year and Imoinu Iratpa festival.

Christmas celebration and long holidays

All banks will be closed across the country on Christmas on 25th December. There are going to be holidays in the days before and after this, due to which banking services may be halted for three-four consecutive days in many states.
