Max Verstappen won the Qatar Grand Prix in style to maintain his faint hopes of winning the Drivers' Championship title and deny Lando Norris an early celebration. The young Brit went into the race knowing that victory would guarantee the end-of-season honours, but it all went wrong for McLaren after only a few laps. They decided not to pit either of their drivers when the safety car was deployed early on, allowing Verstappen to take full advantage.
Red Bull chose to call in the Dutchman for a new set of boots, which gave him a huge chance of taking the chequered flag. Oscar Piastri came home in second place but was just over eight seconds adrift of the lead. Carlos Sainz grabbed the final podium place, with Norris finishing down in fourth. It means the Drivers' Championship battle will go down to a final-day decider in Abu Dhabi next weekend.
