In the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood where celebrity couples often appear picture perfect the reality of their long-standing relationship is a lot more layered and human than what meets the eye. Among the many Bollywood couples one partnership that stands the test of time is that of legendary Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. Being married for almost five decades the couple celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary earlier this year. Recently in a panel discussion Jaya Bachchan opened up about the differences that define their relationship and the reason she married Amitabh Bachchan. What Does Jaya Like the Most About Amitabh Bachchan? During the chat when asked about Amitabh Jaya revealed the trait she admires most in him. She said “The best thing I like about him is his discipline. I am a big one for discipline. I am a very strict mother.” Jaya Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchans Contrasting Personalities Jaya went on to describe how different they truly are from each other. She shared “He does not speak. He is not free with his opinion like I am. He keeps it to himself but he knows how to convey what he wants to at the right time in the right way… which I don’t! That’s the difference.” Speaking more about their contrasting personalities she said “He is a different personality maybe that’s why I married him! Can you imagine if I had married somebody like me? He would be in Vrindavan and I would be somewhere else!” Amitabh and Jaya: 52 Years of Togetherness Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in June this year. The two are often seen together at public events award shows and family occasions. Jaya shared these reflections during the We The Women panel where she candidly spoke about their relationship dynamics and how they are “very different” from one another. Family Life and Work Journey The couple married on June 3 1973 and have two children Shweta Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. Shweta married businessman Nikhil Nanda and they are parents to Navya Nanda and Agastya Nanda. Abhishek is married to actor Aishwarya Rai and the two share a daughter Aaradhya Bachchan. Jaya also took a long pause from acting after marriage to focus on her family returning to cinema in 1998 with Ek Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa after a 17-year break. Over the years the couple has worked together in several classics including Zanjeer Abhimaan Sholay Chupke Chupke Mili and Silsila.
