Motihari, Bihar: In an astonishing twist, a man who had been in jail for the alleged murder of his wife has now learned that she is alive and living with her lover in Delhi. Police have arrested the woman, Gunja Devi, along with the man she was staying with, and both are being brought back to Bihar for questioning.
The incident took place in Ward 10 of the Areraj police station area. Ranjit Kumar, a resident near Mahabali Chowk, had married Gunja Devi, who hailed from Kritpur Mathiya under the Harsiddhi police station. According to family members, Gunja had been frequently talking to an unknown man on her phone since the early days of her marriage, causing tension between the couple.
Disappearance and murder allegation
On July 3, 2025, following a heated argument, Gunja allegedly left the house at midnight. Ranjit immediately filed a missing complaint at Areraj police station. However, two days later, Gunja’s father lodged a separate FIR accusing Ranjit of murdering his daughter and disposing of her body. Under pressure from the growing suspicion and fear of arrest, Ranjit surrendered before the court within a week and was sent to jail.
Police breakthrough
After months of investigation and with the help of Ranjit’s family, police managed to trace Gunja to Delhi. She was found living in a live-in relationship with a young man from her own village. Both were detained on Monday.
Areraj Police Station Officer Pratyasa Kumari confirmed that the two accused are being brought back from Delhi and will be produced before the court. Their statements will determine the next steps in the case, including whether false charges were filed and what legal consequences will follow.
