Yahoo Mail and AOL Mail are facing a growing outage today, with thousands of users reporting login failures, slow loading pages, and unresponsive inboxes. But what exactly is causing the disruption?

No signs of a major cloud provider outage

So far, big cloud infrastructure partners — including Google Cloudwhich supports several large platforms — have reported no issues. This is notable because Downdetector also shows a spike in complaints against OpenAIa company that uses Google’s computing services among others.

Since Google Cloud appears to be operating normally, Yahoo and AOL’s problems aren’t linked to the ongoing issues affecting platforms like Shopify, which has been battling a major Cyber Monday disruption.

In other words, there’s no evidence of a widespread internet or cloud failure behind the Yahoo Mail outage.

Yahoo and AOL have not yet disclosed the cause

Both Yahoo and AOL confirmed earlier on X that they are investigating the problem. However, no further updates have been shared, meaning the root cause remains unclear.
