In today’s busy and irregular lifestyle, people have increased the use of cheese and butter in their daily diet. Be it with breakfast or as a snack, both the products enhance the taste and texture. But there has been a debate among health experts for a long time as to which is more harmful for the body between cheese and butter. Nutrition experts have shared important information regarding this question.
First of all let’s talk about butter. Butter is a dairy product made from milk, which contains high amounts of saturated fat. According to health experts, excessive consumption of butter can increase the risk of heart diseases, as it increases bad cholesterol (LDL) in the body. Its excessive use can also cause problems like weight gain, high blood pressure and fatty liver. However, in moderation, butter is a good source of energy and also contains vitamins A, D and E.
On the other hand, cheese, which is made from milk itself, is considered nutritionally more balanced than butter. Cheese contains good amount of protein, calcium and vitamin B12, which is beneficial for bones and muscles. But many types of cheese also contain high amount of sodium and fat, excessive consumption of which can prove harmful for health. Due to the high use of salt and preservatives, especially in processed cheese, it should be eaten in limited quantities.
Health experts say that if compared, excessive consumption of both the products can be harmful to health, but the high saturated fat present in butter makes it more risky. The protein and calcium present in cheese make it a relatively better option. However, it is considered safer to prefer natural cheeses like paneer, mozzarella or cottage cheese instead of processed cheeses.
Experts also clarified that this decision also depends on the health condition of the person. If someone has high cholesterol, heart disease or weight gain problem, then butter should be used very less. At the same time, people suffering from blood pressure or kidney disease should keep their intake of cheese under control, because it can contain high amount of sodium.
Health experts also recommend that both cheese and butter should be consumed in quantity and balance. These should not be made an essential part of the daily diet. Instead, healthy options like olive oil, ghee, peanut butter or avocado can be preferred.
