Virat Kohli continued his outstanding run in ODI cricket as he reached another landmark during the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur. The senior Indian batter brought up his 53rd ODI century, thus making it back-to-back hundreds after his brilliant knock in Ranchi. His form has been steady and consistent, and he once again played a key role for India after early wickets.
Kohli Brings Up Back-to-back ODI Hundreds
Kohli reached his century in the 38th over with a single off Marco Jansen. It was an emotional moment as he jumped, punched the air, raised his bat, and removed his helmet. Then he looked up towards the sky and hugged KL Rahul. Loud chants of "Kohli, Kohli" reverberated in the stadium.
With this hundred, Kohli achieved yet another major statistical milestone. He now has 11 different streaks of scoring hundreds in two or more consecutive ODI innings - the most by any player in cricket history. Next best is AB de Villiers with six such streaks.
Kohli's latest century also added to his sterling record at home. This was his 40th century in international cricket on Indian soil, making him the second-highest in the list of most centuries at home.

He is now only two behind Sachin Tendulkar. If he continues playing ODIs till 2027, he has a strong chance to break this massive world record.

Kohli Equals Another ODI Series Record
Kohli has also been powerful with the big shots. Following this match, he has now hit nine sixes in this ODI series-the joint-most he has ever hit in any ODI tournament or series. He earlier hit nine sixes in the 2023 ODI vs Sri Lanka and the 2023 ODI World Cup.
The form and scoring rate of Kohli have given India much-needed confidence in the middle overs, allowing them to gain strong platforms in both ODIs so far in this series. This century underlined once again why he remains one of the all-time great ODI batters.
