Kokrajhar, Dec 3: Hagrama Mohilary, the leader of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) and Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), announced plans for a significant public event on December 5. This gathering aims to engage with various communities while promoting the themes of peace, unity, and development.
During his remarks following the conclusion of the BTC Winter Session, Mohilary expressed that the event is anticipated to attract approximately 50,000 attendees and will serve as a launchpad for the party's strategy leading up to the 2026 Assam Assembly elections.
"With the 2026 elections on the horizon, we wish to communicate our plans to the citizens of BTC. Our focus is on delivering a message of shanti, unity, and development," he stated.
He also mentioned ongoing discussions regarding a potential alliance with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the upcoming elections.
"We are in talks to contest alongside the NDA. We welcome BJP members to join our mass gathering. If they choose to participate, we have no objections; they are likely to attend," he noted.
Regarding seat-sharing arrangements for the 2026 elections, Mohilary indicated that discussions are still in the early stages. The NDA currently holds 75 seats in Assam, and he suggested that negotiations on seat distribution will take place later.
"The BPF aims to contest at least 15 seats, with the possibility of more based on internal decisions," he added.
Mohilary emphasized that the BPF-led BTC administration is dedicated to fulfilling all electoral promises made during the council elections.
"Our preparations are solid. We are committed to all our pledges, whether it involves providing land pattas or other commitments," he affirmed.
He also disclosed that the forthcoming BTC budget will allocate Rs 50 crore for impoverished families and another Rs 50 crore for self-help groups (SHGs), indicating a focus on enhancing welfare and rural livelihoods.
Additionally, Mohilary confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the area in January, where he will lay the foundation stone for the Kokrajhar–Gelephu rail line.
Earlier proposals included projects such as the National Highway initiative, the Kokrajhar–Gelephu railway, and the Pathsala–Nanglam railway.
