Latehar District Police has achieved great success in the joint operation being conducted against Naxalites in Jharkhand. Two active area commanders of banned Naxalite organization Jharkhand Janmukti Parishad (JJMP), Sunil Oraon alias Mantu and Mukesh Lohra, carrying a reward of Rs 2 lakh, were arrested by the police in a special raid operation.
Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav told that recently the commander of this organization Pappu Lohra was killed in a police encounter. It was reported that two other area commanders were trying to reactivate the organization. On this, a joint police team of Latehar and Manika police stations was formed under the leadership of SDPO (DSP) Arvind Kumar.
According to the information, Sunil Oraon was seen near Navagarh of Sadar police station area of his village, while Mukesh Lohra was hiding around Purani Palheya village of Manika police station area. Simultaneous raids were conducted in both the areas between 3 and 4 am on Wednesday (December 3) and the police caught both the militants.
SP said that more than seven cases are registered against Sunil Oraon in the surrounding police station areas including Latehar, while two cases are registered against Mukesh Lohra. Both had escaped during the recent police encounter. He said that due to continuous police action, the activities of JJMP have almost ended and now only 4-5 members are left in the organization.
In the last six months, the police have killed two Naxalites, including the JJMP Supreme Commander, in encounters, while many active militants have surrendered. The operation against the remaining militants is continuing. Apart from DSP Arvind Kumar, Manika police station incharge Shashi Kumar, Latehar police station incharge Ramakant Gupta, SI Vikrant Upadhyay, Rahul Kumar Sinha, Vikas Kumar, Dharamveer Singh and other police officers played an important role in the raid operation.
