Foreign Minister: Days after the Red Fort vehicle explosion in Delhi on November 10 was formally classified as a terror act, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar gave a forceful speech on terrorism at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government Summit in Moscow.

Jaishankar emphasized that “there can be no justification, no looking away, and no whitewashing of terrorism,” highlighting India’s sovereign right to defend its people. Reiterating New Delhi’s unyielding position, he said that India “has the right to defend its people against terrorism and will exercise it.”

Reiterating the SCO’s Original Goals

Speaking to SCO member nations, Jaishankar emphasized the organization’s founding goal of battling the “three evils” of extremism, separatism, and terrorism. Over time, these dangers have become even more grave. He said, “The world must show zero tolerance for terrorism in all of its forms and manifestations.

Jaishankar’s comments followed the Center’s resolute reaction to recent security issues by turning over the Red Fort bombing investigation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The minister emphasized that states must not overlook, excuse, or minimize acts of violence and that international unity against terrorism is crucial.

Demand SCO Reform and Adaptation

In order to stay successful, he also urged the SCO to broaden its agenda, change its operational procedures, and adjust to the changing global security landscape. In order to ensure that the organization keeps up with the escalating challenges of terrorism, extremism, and separatism, he said that India will actively support these goals.

Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s commitment to protecting its citizens and its zero-tolerance stance against terrorism. “The world must demonstrate zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” Jaishankar said.
