The International Cricket Council (ICC) released the latest rankings of male cricketers on Wednesday, in which many important changes were seen. Indian cricket team’s legendary batsman Virat Kohli has made a big gain in the ODI rankings. Kohli has now moved up one place to fifth position, while injured captain Shubman Gill slipped to sixth position with 738 points.

Kohli just 32 points behind the top position

Kohli is currently just 32 points behind the top position with 751 rating points. In Ranchi ODI, Kohli improved his ranking by playing a tremendous century of 135 runs against South Africa. Whereas Team India captain Rohit Sharma remains the number-1 batsman of ODI with 783 points.

Kohli’s old dominance and Babar’s reign

After being on top in the ODI rankings for almost three years continuously, Kohli lost the number-1 position in April 2021. At that time, Pakistan captain Babar Azam had left him behind and secured the first position. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has made a strong lead over second placed Daryl Mitchell (766) and third placed Ibrahim Zadran (764) of Afghanistan. Rohit further strengthened his position by playing a brilliant inning of 57 runs in Ranchi ODI. There was good news for India in the bowling rankings too, where Kuldeep Yadav moved up one place to sixth position. He took four wickets for 68 runs in the first ODI.

Pakistani player’s threat in T20

After the conclusion of the tri-series, Pakistan’s Saim Ayub has again become the number-1 all-rounder in the T20 format. He has 295 points in his account, due to which he achieved the top position, leaving behind Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza (289 points). Ayub scored 36 runs and also took one wicket in the final against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. Pakistan’s Abrar Ahmed moved up four places to fourth position, while Mohammad Nawaz moved up two places to 11th position. Nawaz has also moved up three places to fourth in the list of all-rounders.

Big changes in test ranking also

South African players have got a significant advantage in the rankings after the Test series against India. Marco Jansen has now become the fifth-ranked Test bowler by jumping five places with 835 points, which is the best rating of his career. Spinner Simon Harmer moved up 13 places to 11th. India’s Jasprit Bumrah is maintaining his reign as the number-1 bowler of Test with 879 points. South Africa’s Kyle Warren, Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs have also registered significant gains in the batting rankings.
