The Duchess of Sussex is back on screens with the third series of With Love, Meghan. However, this time it is Christmas-themed - or should I say themed around "the holidays" as there is no mention of Christmas in the title (With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration). She's back in a reportedly hired lavish white kitchen, which has been transformed into somewhat of a grotto as Meghan is filmed making wreaths and festive treats for her guests. Prince Harry also makes a brief appearance as he cheekily mocks her cooking - but that's about as exciting as it gets. As viewers tune into the 44-year-old royal celebrating Christmas in California, we've compiled five reasons why Netflix needs to cut ties with Meghan immediately...
1. She's fallen at the first hurdle
Oh, Meghan - I was rooting for you for years, but you've made it really hard to support you over the past 12 months due to your With Love, Meghan series. I had higher hopes for your Christmas special, but you've fallen at the first hurdle by omitting Christmas from the show's title. While it may be a move to be more inclusive, With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration sounds a little odd.
2. Bad reviews for series one and twoThe first two instalments of With Love, Meghan bombed in the Netflix charts, and the Duchess of Sussex received a huge backlash on social media for having celebrity "friends" on the programme, many of whom people had never heard of. What's more, who can forget the moment she (rather abruptly) reminded her "pal" Mindy Kaling that her surname is "Sussex now", not Markle. Even Mindy looked uncomfortable, and the clip went viral - painting Meghan in a bad light. Did a third season really need to be made? There is bound to be more backlash...
3. A waste of money?Meghan and Harry reportedly signed $100 million deal with Netflix back in 2020, which lasted five years. However, has it been worth it for the streaming giant? Audience figures from Netflix revealed that the first season of With Love was not among the streaming service's top 300 most popular shows in the first half of this year. However, this August, they signed a new film and television deal with Netflix. Perhaps it is more successful than I thought...
4. Meghan is just too unrelatableThe reality shows that seem to resonate with viewers are those with high drama, such as The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives on Hulu, The Traitors on the BBC, and Selling Sunset on Netflix. There's always feuding, fights and tears, which reality TV fans (including myself) love to watch as an escape from our own mundane lives. Meghan's shows, including the documentary about her love story with Prince Harry, are so bland. They may be okay as background filler while scrolling on your phone or talking to a guest, but they are not engaging enough to binge-watch or discuss afterwards. If she argued with Harry, it might be worth a watch with some popcorn...
5. Enough is enoughMeghan left the Royal Family years ago and seemed to want a quiet life in California with Harry and her two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. So why does she keep coming back to television, where she will inevitably receive a wave of criticism over her every move? She either adores the limelight or is strapped for cash and has no choice but to fulfil her contractual obligations. Can she not just stick to running her lifestyle brand, As Ever, away from the glaring spotlight? I feel this Christmas Netflix special she's made is going to be mercilessly mocked over the coming weeks... It's a bad look for the streamer and the duchess.
