Gary Neville makes Frank Lampard's 'last job' claim as Coventry City impact clear

Frank Lampard's managerial journey has come under the spotlight from Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Ian Wright and Jamie Carragher as the Coventry City boss continues his remarkable campaign with the Sky Blues. Lampard has steered Coventry to the summit of the Championship with a commanding 10-point advantage over second-placed Middlesbrough, and boasts a 12-point cushion in the automatic promotion places.

The Sky Blues brought Lampard in as head coach last November, where he guided the club to fifth in the Championship before missing out on promotion via the play-offs.

This campaign could witness Lampard propel Coventry into the Premier League, with the 47-year-old's influence at the club now becoming a hot topic amongst pundits.

Ex-Manchester United defender Neville sparked discussion on the 'Stick to Football' podcast regarding the trajectory of Lampard's career prior to his Coventry appointment, reports Coventry Live.

"Frank Lampard [and] Coventry," Neville began. "Who thought when he went to Coventry that that could be his last job in football?"

Keane then questioned Neville's remark by saying: "Why did you think like that?" Neville explained himself by saying: "I just thought, basically, he's had the big job and he goes back to Coventry, if it goes wrong there. It's a big risk."

Carragher then explained why he drew comparisons between Lampard and his former Liverpool teammate, Steven Gerrard, who has managed in the Premier League and, most recently, Saudi Arabia. Carragher said: "What were his options though?

"I used to think about him with Stevie [Gerrard], they've had their go in the Premier League, had their ups and downs, they're probably never going to go lower than a top Championship because they'd want an opportunity to get back to the Premier League."

Wright confessed he hadn't anticipated Coventry becoming promotion challengers during what marks Lampard's debut full campaign at the helm of the Coventry Building Society Arena.

"Coventry's not one of them clubs where you're thinking they are amongst it and if they get the right manager they'll come up," Wright said.

Keane then chimed in: "They’re a proper run club now. You hear the things coming out of Coventry over the last few years, you look at the stadium.

"They're a proper club now, in terms of the business behind the scenes."

Wright proceeded to outline why he believes Lampard's career journey will have prepared him perfectly for his stint at Coventry, with the former England international having already had stints at Derby County, Everton and Chelsea earlier in his managerial career.

Wright finished by saying: "Everything he's learned, the Chelsea job, I was more surprised with him getting that than the Coventry one.

"With all the negativity, how to deal with people, the things that he’s learned, it's probably perfect now, Coventry. Frank's very focused, he’s gone back again."
