Sanchar Saathi app to secure mobile connection

The Government of India has launched the Sanchar Sathi app to prevent identity theft and fraud in the name of mobile connections. The app provides consumers with information about all SIM cards issued in their name and lets them block suspicious numbers instantly.

Identity security now in your hands

In most of the cases, criminals obtain fake SIM cards by misusing Aadhaar card or other documents. Sanchar Saathi app is a simple and effective way to deal with this risk. The user simply has to login with their mobile number and enter the OTP, after which they can see how many connections are active in their name.

Quick action on suspicious number

If a number appears in the app’s list that you have not used, that connection can be closed immediately by clicking on the ‘Not my number’ option. The Department of Telecommunications and telecom companies immediately block such numbers.

Use the stolen mobile

Not just SIM cards, this app also has CEIR feature, which blocks lost or stolen mobile phone through its IMEI number. This way, the phone will not work on any other network making it useless to criminals.

Reporting fraud calls

Users can report suspicious calls and messages using the app’s Chakshu feature. This is helping to control cases of financial fraud and fake identity.

Controversy and popularity

Recently the government had proposed to make this app mandatory in new smartphones, but this decision was withdrawn in December 2025 due to privacy opposition. Despite this, the Sanchar Sathi app has gained popularity and has more than two crore downloads so far.
