The exciting match played between India and Pakistan in the Super-4 stage of Asia Cup 2025 has now given rise to a new controversy. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has filed an official complaint before the International Cricket Council (ICC). PCB believes that the third umpire had taken a wrong decision regarding the dismissal of Pakistani opener Fakhar Zaman. At the very beginning of the match, Fakhar Zaman played aggressive innings and scored 15 runs in 8 balls. However, he was caught by Indian wicketkeeper Sanju Samson in the third over. The on-field umpire did not give out immediately and sent the decision to the third umpire Ruchira Paliaguruge. After watching replays from different angles, the third umpire declared Zaman out. Pakistan alleges that this decision was wrong and hence they have filed an official complaint with the ICC.
After this wicket, differences of opinion were created among the fans on social media also. Some considered the umpire’s decision correct, while others considered it a mistake. Generally, the decision of the third umpire is considered final and rarely does any team take a complaint to the ICC on this issue. But the defeat against India is becoming difficult for the Pakistani team to bear. Even in the group stage, after Pakistan’s defeat against India, a complaint was made against match referee Andy Pycroft, which was dismissed by the ICC.
Pakistan captain Salman Aga also raised questions regarding umpiring in the press conference after the match. He said, “Umpires can make mistakes, but I felt that the ball had bounced before reaching the keeper’s hands. I may be wrong, but umpires can also be wrong. If Fakhar Zaman had played longer innings during the powerplay, we might have scored 190 runs. However, the final decision lies with the umpire.”
