New Delhi, 4 December. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov jointly chaired the 22nd meeting of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission (IRIGC-M&MTC) at the Manekshaw Center in New Delhi on Thursday evening.
The meeting was held a day before the 23rd India-Russia annual summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Both countries reiterated that the India-Russia partnership is based on deep trust, shared principles and decades-old respect.
In the meeting, Rajnath Singh stressed the government’s commitment to strengthen indigenous defense manufacturing under Self-reliant India. He said that India and Russia can further advance their cooperation through co-development and co-production of advanced and specialized defense technologies.
On the other hand, Russian Defense Minister Belousov stressed the strength of the strategic partnership between the two countries and said that India and Russia are linked by years of friendship and close defense cooperation. He said that Russian defense industries are ready to fully cooperate towards India’s self-reliant defense production. Belousov also invited Rajnath Singh to attend the 23rd Commission meeting to be held in Russia in the year 2026.
At the end of the meeting the two Ministers signed a protocol outlining the current and future areas of defense cooperation. Earlier, both the leaders paid homage at the National War Memorial, where they laid wreaths in honor of the brave martyrs. The Russian Defense Minister also inspected the tri-service guard of honour.
