Bloatware: Helpful or Burden?
Nowadays, almost all smartphones, laptops and tablets in the market come with various apps pre-installed by manufacturers, carriers or third-party developers. The aim of the companies is to earn additional income from advertisements and trial software through these apps. Some apps may be useful, but most contain apps that neither allow users to open nor provide the option to delete them. This results in decreased performance and increased dissatisfaction among users.
How Bloatware spoils the health of your device
These apps continuously use resources in the background, which increases the pressure on RAM, storage and battery. Gradually, the speed of the device starts decreasing, the battery drains quickly, and some apps also randomly ask for access to your data. In some cases, bloatware can pose a security risk by tracking your online activities through advertisements.
Which apps secretly take up space
Devices often have multiple duplicate apps, such as two gallery apps or two messaging apps. Additionally, carrier-installed apps, trial version antivirus, various shopping apps, and games usually come without permission. These apps not only make the interface cluttered but also use storage space unnecessarily.
How to Identify and Remove Bloatware
Go to Settings to identify apps on your device that you never use. Many apps can be disabled in Android, while third-party apps can be uninstalled completely. Control Panel and PowerShell are useful in Windows. Some apps on iPhone and Mac can be removed, while others can be disabled. A setting like Offload Unused Apps on iOS can automatically remove apps you don’t use.
How to Keep Your Gadget Bloatware-Free
When buying new devices, opt for models that have a clean OS, like Pixel phones or laptops that have fewer pre-installed apps. Keep checking the app list from time to time and remove the apps you are not using. Advanced users can use ADB or custom ROM in Android, but this can be a risky option.
Overall, this…
Bloatware degrades the actual performance of your device. With a little awareness and regular cleaning, you can keep your phone, laptop and tablet faster, safer and lighter. A clean system helps extend the life of the device and provides a better user experience.
