Tonight, Princess Catherine, alongside members of the Royal Family, will be joined by 1,600 guests for her annual Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey. Traditional Christmas carols will be sung in the specially decorated Abbey, with readings and music from performers including Kate Winslet.

Earlier this week, the Princess of Wales sent a Christmas message about the importance of acts of kindness in times that can seem "fragmented or uncertain", in a letter to guests attending her carol concert. Catherine wrote: "The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others."

Here is everything we know about tonight's event...

1) It is the fifth year the festive concert has been held

The Princess of Wales will stage her annual Christmas Carol service at Westminster Abbey this evening, with 1,600 guests attending and featuring a host of celebrities.

2) There will be musical performances and readings by celebrity guests

The service will see the world-renowned Westminster Abbey choir sing some of the nation's most beloved carols, alongside musical performances and readings by guests including Dan Smith, Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

3) A string of new musicians were announced earlier this week

Catherine is supporting new talent including Cornish folk group Fisherman's Friends and rising star, Griff.

4) An illustrator will be sketching snapshots

To mark the occasion, for the first time, an illustrator will be drawing guests and capturing the atmosphere inside Westminster Abbey.

5) The service will celebrate individuals from across the UK

Princess Kate has made it clear this service is for everybody. The service will recognise individuals from across the UK who may have dedicated or volunteered their time to be present with others, led initiatives that bring people in their community together, or offered a helping hand to those around them.

6) The late Duchess of Kent's charity Future Talent will feature

The late Duchess of Kent co-founded a charity to support musically gifted children from low-income backgrounds. They will feature during the service with a brass ensemble of eight teenagers playing as guests arrive.

7) 15 carol services in total will take place across the UK

This event is not limited to London, 15 other community carol services are taking place across the UK tonight, hosted by Lord-Lieutenants, and supported by The Royal Foundation.
