Gorakhpur Electoral Roll Cleanup: The district administration’s goal for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign—a thorough effort to update the electoral roll—has been accomplished. The administration has identified over 647,759 voters who fit under the ASD (Absent, Shifted, Deceased, and Duplicate) category, making up 17.60 percent of the district’s 3.6 million registered voters, as part of a large cleansing effort. The electoral list will now no longer include their names.

Important Data: The Breakdown of ASD
Out of the 4,047 booths in the district, an average of 160 names are suggested to be removed. The following is a thorough summary of the voters who will be eliminated:

Category Number of Voters
Shifted 311,669
Deceased 132,005
Absent / Untraceable 121,207
Duplicate 73,607
Others 9,274
Total to be Removed 647,759

The Chillupar, Khajni, and Bansgaon assembly seats would see the most removals, according to Vineet Singh, the ADM (Finance and Revenue) and Deputy District Election Officer.

Extended Campaign for Re-Verification
The statewide deadline for the SIR campaign has been extended by 15 days, ending on December 26, even if the district objective has been reached.

Focus Areas: Re-verifying data is the main goal of the expansion, especially at booths where ASD voters make up more than 25% of the overall list.

Political Participation: Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been instructed to provide the list of ASD voters to Booth Level Agents (BLAs) designated by political parties for independent verification in order to guarantee openness. The list will be sent to the appropriate party authorities in the event that there is no BLA.

High-Level Review: During a video conference review on Tuesday night, State Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa gave these directives.

Correctional Facility for Current Voters
In order to guarantee correctness, the Election Commission has included a “edit” feature for BLOs this time, according to Deputy District Election Officer Vineet Singh.

Voters may meet with their BLO to have any inaccurate or missing information on the enumeration form fixed, even after it has been submitted.

Maintaining an accurate and transparent electoral register is the goal of this approach.

Registration of New Voters
Additionally, the government is considering applications for new voters, including residents who were previously excluded and young people who will turn 18 on January 1, 2026.

Procedure: Following the conclusion of the SIR campaign, new names will be added to the register.

Status: The Election Commission’s website has received around 20,000 online applications, which are now being verified.

Forms: Officials said extra forms are being made available to BLOs in response to allegations of a lack of Form 6, which is necessary for new voters.

Official Declaration
“The 100% goal of the SIR campaign in the district has been achieved,” said District Magistrate and District Election Officer Deepak Meena. To make sure that no qualified voter’s name is omitted from the electoral record, electors with ASD are now undergoing re-verification. The BLAs chosen by political parties are also given access to the list of ASD voters. It is recommended that they carry out verification on their own level as well.
