In his first TV interview Pranav Adani Gautam Adani’s nephew and a director at Adani Enterprises spoke about a massive clean-energy project the company is building. At the Agenda Aaj Tak event he explained that the group is setting up a 30-gigawatt solar plant in the desert region of Khavda in Kutch Gujarat. He described the project as so huge that it could one day be visible from the Moon. According to him this site is expected to become the world’s largest renewable energy park by 2030. “If we talk about renewable energy the Adani Group is playing a major role” he said. “Our goal is to become the world’s biggest renewable energy generation company by 2030.” The area around Khavda near the India–Pakistan border is known for its extreme heat and dry empty landscape. For years people saw it as a place where life couldn’t really exist. Pranav Adani said that this isolation actually makes it perfect for a large renewable energy project and the company is now turning the unused land into something valuable. He explained that the solar site covers about 520 square kilometres i.e. roughly five times bigger than Paris. Pranav Adani added that while India is rapidly expanding clean energy coal-based power is still needed to meet the country’s basic round-the-clock electricity demand. He pointed out that modern ultra-supercritical coal technologies release far fewer emissions than older systems. The Khavda project is a key part of the company’s goal to build 50 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity by 2030. He said this will greatly boost India’s clean-energy share at a time when the country is trying to grow quickly while also keeping its climate commitments. Pranav Adani also predicted that by 2030 Adani Green Energy will become the largest renewable energy producer in the world. Who is Pranav Adani? Pranav Adani nephew of business leader Gautam Adani started his journey in 1999 with Adani Wilmar. Over the years he has taken on major responsibilities within the group. He is also in charge of the Dharavi redevelopment project and has played a key role in expanding the group’s presence in agri-logistics and fresh produce. Under his leadership Adani Total Gas has grown to become the largest private city gas distributor in India.
