Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav.
Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav participated in TV9 Network's conclave 'Buniyaad Bharatvarsh Ki' on Tuesday. In the program organized on topics related to real estate and urban planning, the Union Minister expressed his views on the solution to the increasing air pollution in Delhi. He said that the government is continuously working to reduce this challenge.
Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav said that to deal with pollution in Delhi-NCR, the government created the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), whose work along with different authorities is to control and improve air pollution in NCR and surrounding areas. Apart from this, he came up with a GRAP plan and decided on its different phases. He further said that the biggest cause of pollution in Delhi is vehicular pollution. For this, vehicles were shifted from BS4 to BS6 in a planned manner in the last few years. However, old vehicles still remain a problem. Constant efforts are being made to remove these vehicles from the system.
Traffic hot spots are increasing pollution
Bhupendra Yadav said that traffic hot spots in Delhi are also a major reason for increasing AQI. At present, 60 such traffic hot spots have been identified in Delhi, where pollution occurs the most due to traffic. Delhi government is also trying to eliminate these traffic hot spots by building over bridges and under bridges. Efforts are also being made to eliminate such traffic hot spots in NCR's Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. Apart from this, efforts are also being made to reduce pollution by including electric vehicles in public transport and keeping big commercial vehicles out of Delhi.
Illegal industries are also a problem
The Union Minister further said that industries are also a major reason for Delhi's pollution. Today there are 240 industrial zones in Delhi-NCR region. Work is being done to reduce the pollution caused by this. But some illegal industries have become a problem, causing more pollution. Action is being taken on these also. Apart from this, both construction and demolition take place in the NCR region. Efforts are ongoing to control the pollution caused by this.
