A unique sight was seen on Wednesday during the winter session of Maharashtra Assembly. When Sharad Sonawane, MLA from Junnar assembly seat of Pune, reached the assembly dressed as a leopard, all eyes were fixed on him. Let us tell you that there is anger among the people after the death of many people in the last few months due to leopard attack in Junnar area. The conflict between humans and animals is increasing rapidly in the area. In protest against this, MLA Sharad Sonawane had reached the assembly wearing leopard attire.
MLA Sharad Sonawane said that this issue was raised 10 years ago in the winter session of 2014-15. The government was also warned. In the last three months, 55 people have lost their lives in leopard attacks in my constituency. Recently, leopard attacked seven people in Pardi area of Nagpur. Although everyone is out of danger. After meeting the victims, Maharashtra Forest Minister Ganesh Naik said that work is underway on a plan to confine leopards to the forests.
Forest Minister Ganesh Naik told in Maharashtra Assembly that there is a plan to release a large number of goats in the forest, so that leopards do not reach people’s homes in search of prey. The minister argued that if four people die in a leopard attack, they have to provide financial assistance of Rs 1 crore. Now it has been decided that instead of giving compensation after death, goats worth Rs 1 crore will be released in the forest in advance, so that leopards do not come close to the residential area in search of prey.
Terror of leopards in these three districts
According to the Forest Minister, most cases of leopard attacks have been reported in Ahilyanagar, Pune and Nashik districts. Quoting forest officials, he also said that a female leopard gives birth to four cubs. Due to this, their population is increasing rapidly in the area. Earlier leopards lived in the forest. But now they have made sugarcane fields their home. The issue of increasing cases of leopard attacks was raised in the Assembly by NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad. On his question, the Forest Minister informed the House about the government’s preparations.
Maharashtra government will plant fruit trees
Forest Minister Ganesh Naik said that bamboo fencing will be done around the Tadoba Reserve and other dense forests. He says that there are no fruit bearing trees left in the forests. Due to this, the prey of leopards and other animals comes out of the forest. For this reason they also come out of the forest in search of prey. Now officials have been asked to plant fruit trees in the forests. Due to this the victims will remain in the forest.
