Lucknow. Samajwadi Party’s senior leader and Duddhi MLA Vijay Singh Gond has died during treatment at SGPGI, Lucknow. His death was confirmed by Assembly Speaker Avadhnarayan Yadav. Vijay Singh Gond, who was ill for a long time, had damaged both his kidneys, due to which he was admitted to SGPGI.

Was counted among the leading leaders who raised the voice of tribal society
The demise of Gond, known as the ‘grandfather’ of tribal politics of Dudhi, the 403rd Assembly Seat of the state, sent a wave of mourning across Sonbhadra and surrounding areas. Vijay Singh Gond was one of the leading leaders who raised the voice of the tribal society.
Won the assembly elections for the first time on Congress ticket.
He fought till the Supreme Court to get Duddhi and Obra Assembly Constituencies declared as Scheduled Tribe seats. While working in Vanvasi Seva Ashram for a monthly honorarium of only Rs 200, he won the assembly elections for the first time in 1979 on a Congress ticket. After this he never looked back.

Member of Legislative Assembly eight times
By defeating his political guru Rampyare Panika in 1989, he wrote a new chapter in tribal politics. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly eight times from different parties and gave a new identity to tribal interests in the politics of the state. Gond strongly raised the rights of the tribal community in the House and made remarkable efforts to bring them into the mainstream. There is deep mourning in the political, social and tribal community due to the demise of Vijay Singh Gond. Leaders, workers and supporters are considering his death as an irreparable loss.
