digital desk- An important development has come to light in the politics of Maharashtra. For the first time after the split in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the year 2023, Ajit Pawar and Supriya Sule were seen sharing the political stage together. The occasion came ahead of the Pune Municipal Corporation elections, when Ajit Pawar-led NCP and Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) released a joint manifesto. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule were seen together on the stage in the joint press conference held on Saturday. During this, those senior leaders of NCP (SP) were also present, who till now were largely maintaining distance from the election campaign. This common platform is being seen as a big message in Maharashtra politics, especially at a time when both the parties are part of different political alliances.

Priority given to development rising above politics

On this occasion, Ajit Pawar said that the joint manifesto focuses on the fundamental and long pending issues to the citizens of Pune. He said that the development of the city has been given priority by rising above politics. Issues like water supply, traffic jams, roads, sanitation, health services and environment figure prominently in the manifesto. It is noteworthy that while NCP is a part of the ruling Grand Alliance, NCP (SP) is included in the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi. Despite this, both the parties have joined hands for the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal elections, which are to be held on January 15. This is being seen as a strategic partnership in local politics.

Big promises made regarding city infrastructure and civic amenities

In the joint manifesto released for the Pune Municipal Corporation elections, many big promises have been made regarding the infrastructure and civic amenities of the city. It talks about repairing 33 missing road links across the city, widening main roads and improving traffic flow. Both parties claim that these steps will provide relief from the long-standing problem of traffic jams in Pune. Emphasis has also been laid on promoting public transport in the manifesto. The alliance has proposed to provide free travel facilities in buses and metro, which is expected to provide relief to common citizens. Along with this, a promise has also been made to take concrete steps regarding pollution control and cleanliness.

Hospitals will be built within a radius of two kilometers

Regarding health services, the joint declaration states that hospitals will be established within a radius of two kilometers to ensure that basic medical facilities are easily available to every citizen. Apart from this, hi-tech health services and better emergency facilities have also been assured. Keeping in mind environmental protection and sustainable development, the alliance has announced incentives to housing societies taking eco-friendly initiatives. Societies that adopt environment-friendly measures will be given 20 percent property tax rebate and will be awarded ‘Green Society’ certification.
