PTC Web Desk: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia was visited by his wife and MLA Ganieve Kaur at Nabha Jail on Thursday, following which she issued a strong warning regarding his safety.
After a meeting that lasted around 30 minutes, Ganieve Kaur told reporters that jail officials would be held accountable if any harm came to Majithia during his incarceration. Referring to intelligence inputs indicating a possible threat, she alleged that the Punjab Government had failed to show concern for the safety of even a citizen, adding that her family was part of the opposition and therefore even more vulnerable.
Ganieve Kaur claimed that Majithia was being kept under round-the-clock isolation in the name of security, alleging that a “prison within a prison” had effectively been created for him. Despite this, she said, Majithia remained in good spirits and his morale was strong.
On the other hand, Nabha Jail authorities have bene maintaining that all jail rules and procedures were being strictly followed.
The issue has triggered political reactions, with the opposition continuing to question the Punjab government’s handling of high-profile prisoners.
