Mark Labbett was left fuming and rolling his eyes on Friday's episode of Beat The Chasers (January 16) after a major mistake by one of his own teammates. The ITV quiz show saw the full Chasers line-up - Mark Labbett, Paul Sinha, Anne Hegerty, Darragh Ennis, Jenny Ryan and Shaun Wallace - take on a fresh group of contestants chasing a life-changing sum.
The tension ramped up when contestant Jamie opted to face all five Chasers for a staggering £100,000. But the moment quickly turned sour when Paul Sinha buzzed in on two crucial questions and got both wrong at pivotal points in the game. With every second counting, Mark was seen rolling his eyes and throwing his hands in the air, looking increasingly exasperated as the errors handed momentum back to the contestant. One viewer following along chimed in on X, commenting on The Beast's seemingly over-the-top reaction.
They fumed: "The Beast is such an arrogant d******d - they make out that his cockiness is a persona for the programme, but it's so obviously who he really is. Always has to gloat, just can't help himself. Horrible man."
But Paul's blunder paid off, as Jamie went home with the astonishing jackpot. Fans were thrilled for the player.
"Loved that 100k," gushed one fan. Another penned: "£100k!!! Amazing!!!".
Elsewhere the show left fans in uproar after accusing ITV of giving a contestant harder questions that the chasers.
One viewer blasted: "#beatthechasers what a corrupt show. Clearly the lady in the wheelchair was given much harder questions. I could not believe how easy the chasers questions where. @ITV #corrupt."
The on-screen tension comes as ITV pushes ahead with a major expansion of The Chase brand.
ITV Studios has officially launched a new entertainment label, Bright Entertainment, with its first commission confirmed as The Chase Around the World.
The new spin-off will see Bradley Walsh front a globe-trotting version of the hit quiz, taking contestants far beyond the studio floor.
The six-part series will follow six pairs of contestants as they race across the world in a bid to track down "the biggest brains in Britain" - the Chasers - who will be hidden in secret international locations.
Announcing the project, Bright Entertainment boss Lily Wilson said: "What better way to launch Bright Entertainment - not only with the news of our inaugural commission, but a reimagining of one of the most successful television quiz formats."
She added: "The Chase Around the World is a fittingly global evolution for an iconic format."
Bradley Walsh teased what's ahead, saying: "This bold new take on The Chase combines quizzing with travelling and will test contestants' knowledge like never before."
The spin-off builds on the enormous success of The Chase, which has run for more than 17 years and been commissioned in 22 territories worldwide, with Beat The Chasers also spawning international versions.
The new series is expected to air later this year.
