Former India player Manoj Tiwary has demanded the end of sporting relations with the countries where Indians are killed. He commented on the ongoing controversy involving the BCCI and the BCB over the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Bangladesh has refused to send its national team to India for the matches and urged the ICC to shift the matches to Sri Lanka. The development took place after BCCI’s instructions to the Kolkata Knight Riders led to the release of the Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the squad of the three-time champions ahead of IPL 2026.

“When the terror attack happened in Pahalgam, I said India should not play against Pakistan. Even though the government permitted the matches, I still believe such games shouldn’t happen,” Tiwary told ANI.

According to him, such issues are beyond cricket. “If an Indian is killed in any country, whether it is Bangladesh, Australia or England, then India shouldn’t maintain relations with that particular nation,” he added.

“We shouldn’t mix sports with such matters, but the matches will be conducted because games were given go ahead against Pakistan in the past. Even now, they will get the permission, but I feel they should not play,” he mentioned.

There has been an increase in anti-India sentiments in Bangladesh, and India has condemned the attacks on the Hindu community.

Bangladesh’s Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Nazrul said that the atmosphere is not right to play the T20 World Cup matches in India, and the BCB officials are in touch with the International Cricket Council. Meanwhile, ICC is satisfied with the security arrangements in India and told the Bangladesh Cricket Board to reconsider its stance on the upcoming global competition.
