What did the government say?
V. Umashankar, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, said that India is rapidly moving towards digital system. Earlier, the facility of toll payment through UPI was started, which people liked. Now taking it further, cash at toll plazas is being completely banned. After April 1, only FASTag and UPI will be valid.
Cash lane will be completely closed
After this decision, cash lanes will be closed at toll plazas across the country. Currently, many people used cash lane even after having FASTag. This caused traffic jams especially during festivals and rush hours. Now this will not happen and the toll system will become faster and cleaner.

Preparation for toll without barrier
This decision is also a preparation for a big change to come. The government is soon going to bring such a system in which there will be no barriers at the toll plaza. Trains will pass without stopping and toll will be automatically deducted through FASTag.
Trial will be held first on 25 toll plazas
The government has decided to first try this new system on 25 toll plazas. Here the experience of passengers and the system will be examined. If everything goes well, it will be implemented in the entire country. This will reduce traffic jams, reduce travel time and also reduce pollution.
