Before the elections, the stage was shared, unity was seen in the speeches and the supporters got hope (Maharashtra Municipal Election Result). But the vote counting data once again made it clear that Politics To be seen together and to win together are two different things. The results refuted many claims.

As soon as the election results of 29 Municipal Corporations of Maharashtra are out, the political picture has become almost clear. While on one hand the BJP alliance seems to be getting an edge in big cities, on the other hand this election has proved to be disappointing for Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). According to early and mid trends, MNS could not even open its account in 22 cities.

The most talked about thing is about Mumbai Municipal Corporation (Maharashtra Municipal Election Result), where before the elections, the association of Thackeray brothers was in the news. Despite the alliance with Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT), Raj Thackeray’s party did not get the expected public support. Despite aggressive campaigning on Marathi identity and local issues, voters did not return to MNS.

No effect even in big cities

As per the trends, MNS’s performance remained weak even in major urban areas like Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur. Even on the seats where the party had put in all its strength, the victory figures appear to be very limited. While BJP and its allies seem to be getting closer to majority in BMC, MNS has not even been able to cross the double digit mark.

Political analysts believe that despite the alliance, vote transfer could not be completed completely. Moreover, the urban voter this time preferred stability and a clear choice, which directly benefited the BJP.

Questions raised on strategy

MNS did not field candidates on all the seats in all 29 municipal corporations (Maharashtra Municipal Election Result), rather the focus was on selected areas. Despite this, the results did not come as expected. This has raised questions about the party’s ground hold, organizational strength and future strategy.

The election results indicate that elections are not won by emotional appeal or family unity alone. Voters are now giving more importance to local functioning, trust and clear leadership.

These results of the municipal elections are being considered indicative for the upcoming politics of Maharashtra—and this seems to be a time for introspection for the MNS.
