Vietnam secures 3 spots in world’s top 10 sandwiches

Three varieties of banh mi have dominated the top 10 of TasteAtlas list of the best sandwiches in the world.

The list, compiled from global ratings submitted through Dec. 15, 2025, processed over 36,000 votes, with the system validating 25,000 as legitimate entries.

Ranking second worldwide is roasted pork banh mior roasted pork belly banh mi. This variation features roasted pork tucked into a baguette and layered with mayonnaise, pickles, cucumber, and herbs. Found at street food stalls, it remains one of the most popular versions of the sandwich across the country.

At number three is the classic banh mi.

Made with a baguette introduced during the French colonial era, the sandwich reflects a blend of cultures. The bread, butter and pate come from French traditions, while herbs, chili and pickles give it a Vietnamese flavor.

Early versions were simple, with just bread, meat and basic seasonings. Over time, banh mi has evolved into countless variations, often filled with cold cuts, butter and pate.

Claiming the seventh spot is banh mi thitknown as meat and cold cuts banh mi or banh mi Saigon. This version features a mix of cold cuts, such as cha lua (pork roll) or ham. Garnished with pickles and herbs, it serves as a culinary staple throughout Vietnam.

The list was led by Turkey’s tombik doner. This specialty features shredded meat stuffed in a bun-shaped flatbread known as pide ekmek, complemented by tomatoes, onions, and assorted sauces.
