Iran is known not only for its oil and natural gas reserves, but also for its rich culture, architecture, traditions and hospitality. The traditional dishes here are also considered very special. If you are familiar with the taste of Iranian tea made in India, in which milk is often added, tea in Iran is prepared in a completely different form, in which milk is not used.

Why do people drink black tea in Iran?

Most of the people in India like to drink tea mixed with milk, but in Iran traditionally only black tea is drunk. The main reason behind this is that adding milk changes the actual taste, color and aroma of tea. Iranian people prefer to drink tea in its pure and natural state to fully experience its taste and aroma.

Another reason is that in Iranian culture, sweet rather than salty snacks are preferred with tea, such as dates. The taste of milk tea and sweet snacks does not match, hence people avoid adding milk in tea.

In everyday life in Iran, people drink ordinary black tea, which is prepared by adding only tea leaves and sometimes cinnamon or cardamom. Saffron tea i.e. saffron tea is made in Iran on special occasions. It is served at family functions, weddings or any special occasion. Saffron threads are ground and some sugar or salt is added to it, then it is dissolved in hot water and poured into boiling tea. Sugar can be added as per taste at the time of serving.

Gol Gavazban flower tea popular in Iran

Apart from this, tea made from Gol Gavazban flowers is also popular in Iran. Sweetness can be increased by adding honey or sugar to it and it is made refreshing by adding lemon. People often like to drink it in the evening. In this way, Iranian tea culture is quite different from India due to its unique taste and tradition. The tradition of not adding milk in tea here and its combination with sweet snacks makes it special.
