Manchester City's ongoing legal battle with the Premier League could reportedly rumble on for another year. The Independent claims the three independent judges have not yet made a decision and that, aside from a small circle, no one has any idea whether the panel will reach an outcome.

City were charged with allegedly breaching financial regulations from 2009 to 2018 and for failing to co-operate with the Premier League's investigation. The club have repeatedly maintained their innocence, and although it's often referred to as 115 charges, it's believed there could be up to 130 potential breaches.

Pep Guardiola's side won three Premier League titles during that period, and an independent panel heard the cases from both sides from September 16 to December 6, 2024. There was initial talk of a verdict arriving as early as February 2025, though both sides would appeal any decision if there was an unfavourable outcome.

It's not necessarily a surprise that the outcome has taken some time, and Guardiola's original comment back in February 2025 suggested there would be a resolution in March. However, there was no outcome and Premier League chief Richard Masters was asked for an update in July.

He told NBC: "You can ask but our rules are very clear, it's a confidential process so I can't give any information on timing or anything like that. I can't add anything on that."

The fresh report from the Independent suggests there is irritation at the highest levels of the Premier League about the lengthy delays in reaching a conclusion, though neither party can accelerate the process. With Marc Guehi's imminent signing, City's net expenditure since December 2024 will exceed the £500m threshold, something the report indicates has left several Premier League clubs exasperated.

Guardiola faced renewed questioning about his current position on the 115 charges saga and whether he hoped for a rapid resolution. Yet, he revealed little and responded: "It's the same question I ask to you; I don't know. I don't know.

"Maybe you have better info than me! You don't have? Neither. I would love to have it but I don't know, I don't know.

"It's the same answer to your question, the same answer from me one, two, three years ago; they must be so busy."
