CUET UG 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has initiated the admission process for undergraduate programs in 48 universities, inviting applications for the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) Undergraduate (UG) 2026 for the academic session 2026-27. In other words, admission to undergraduate seats in 48 universities, including DU, JNU, BHU, and Allahabad University, will be based on the CUET UG 2026 scores. To obtain a CUET UG 2026 score, students must appear for the CUET UG in 5 subjects out of 37, but choosing these 5 subjects (known as the subject combination or subject matrix) is considered the real challenge. The biggest challenge is faced by students who are planning to change their stream in graduation.

Let's find out if it's possible for students who have completed their 12th grade in Science to pursue a BA Honours degree in a different subject upon graduation. We will also explore which subjects students need to take in CUET UG 2026 if they change their stream in graduation.

Can you change your stream after 12th grade?
Can you change your stream in graduation after 12th grade? To find the answer to this question, Tv9 Bharatvarsh Digital spoke to Dr. RK Gupta, Principal of PG DAV College (Evening), affiliated with Delhi University. He explained that it is possible to change streams after 12th grade, allowing Science and Commerce students to take admission in BA Honours courses, and similarly, Arts students can take admission in Commerce courses like B.Com Honours. However, choosing the right subject combination in CUET UG is crucial for changing streams in graduation. For this, students should refer to the subject matrix list released annually by the university.

Which subjects to take in CUET UG when changing streams? Changing streams after 12th grade for undergraduate studies is possible, but it became extremely complicated after the implementation of CUET UG. In fact, after the implementation of CUET UG, admissions are based solely on merit, and this merit is determined by the results of the five subjects chosen for the CUET UG exam. Therefore, selecting these five subjects becomes a major challenge for students planning to change streams in their undergraduate studies.

To understand the rules regarding this, Tv9 Bharatvarsh Digital spoke to Dr. R.K. Gupta, Principal of PG DAV College (Evening), affiliated with Delhi University. He explained that admission is possible to Humanities courses from the Commerce or Science streams. For this, the merit based on the five subjects of CUET UG is not relevant. He says that after changing streams, the subjects studied in 12th grade and those in undergraduate studies are different, which makes the process very complex.

He further explains that the merit of students who change streams after 12th grade is determined by the General Aptitude Test (GAT). Such students are required to take the GAT. They can also take the CUET with one language and two core subjects.
