137 more mohalla clinics will soon be closed in Delhi. The Directorate General of Health Services of Delhi Government has issued instructions to the Chief District Medical Officers of all the districts. Delhi government says that approximately 1100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will be opened across Delhi. So far 319 have been opened. Due to this, mohalla clinics are being closed.
540 mohalla clinics were opened in Delhi during the Aam Aadmi Party government. But, now gradually Ayushman Arogya Mandir is taking their place. Mohalla clinics were started by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi in 2015 with the aim of providing health-care facilities to all the people.
Out of 137 clinics, 101 are in porta cabin.
According to officials, the decision regarding closure was taken by the Mohalla Clinic Cell of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to the Chief District Medical Officers (CDMOs) of all the districts. Of the 137 clinics to be closed, 101 run in porta cabins. Of these, 30 run on rented premises, five in government buildings and one in a private building without rent.
According to officials, the 41 clinics that will be closed currently do not have doctors and are not working. He told that the remaining 96 clinics are near Ayushman Arogya Mandir, hence they have become useless. There were more than 540 mohalla clinics in Delhi.
Inauguration of 81 new Ayushman Arogya Mandir
Officials said that as the Ayushman Arogya Mandir network grows, the remaining clinics may also be closed in the future. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday inaugurated 81 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across Delhi. With this, the total number of such primary health care centers in the city has increased to 319.
Mohalla Clinic Union President Jitendra Kumar had informed in a statement that during the Janata Darbar, CM Rekha Gupta had assured us that all the existing Mohalla Clinic staff will be adjusted in Ayushman Arogya Mandirs without any interview. But, contrary to that assurance, the government has started closing more Mohalla Clinics without giving jobs to the existing Mohalla Clinic employees. We have filed a PIL in the court and we hope that we will get justice.
