Fasts and festivals have special significance in Sanatan Dharma, which are celebrated with devotion and faith throughout the country. Among these holy festivals, the place of Navratri is considered very important, which is dedicated to the nine forms of Mother Durga. During the nine days of Navratri, devotees pray for happiness and prosperity by worshiping different forms of Goddess Durga.
Many people are not aware that Navratri comes not only twice but four times in a year. Apart from Chaitra and Shardiya Navratri, Gupt Navratri is also celebrated twice. The special importance of Gupt Navratri is considered to be to spiritual practice and tantric worship, in which ten Mahavidyas are worshiped along with Mother Durga.
Importance of Magh Gupta Navratri
According to the Hindu calendar, Gupt Navratri comes twice a year. It is organized for the first time in the month of Ashadh and for the second time in the month of Magh. Magh Gupt Navratri is celebrated from Pratipada Tithi to Navami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Magh month. During this time, devotees perform special sadhanas and secret prayers.
When is Magh Gupta Navratri?
In the year 2026, Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Magh month is starting from 01.21 am on Monday, January 19. At the same time, this date will end the next day i.e. on January 19 at 02:14 am. Udaya Tithi is recognized in Sanatan tradition, hence this year the beginning of Magh Gupta Navratri will be considered from 19th January. Ghatasthapana and Maa Durga will be worshiped on this day.
Gupt Navratri 2026 Ghatasthapana Muhurat
According to the Vedic calendar, the auspicious time of Ghatasthapana on January 19 will start from 07:14 am, which will last till 10:46 am. Apart from this, Abhijeet Muhurta will be from 12:11 pm to 12:53 pm. Devotees can start Gupt Navratri by installing the Kalash at any auspicious time as per their convenience and devotion.

During Gupt Navratri, Tantrik and Aghori Sadhaks perform special worship of Goddess Durga at midnight. The puja starts with the installation of the statue or idol of Maa Durga. After this, red vermillion is offered to the mother and a chunari with a golden braid is offered. Then puja materials are duly offered at the feet of the mother. Red flowers are offered to Maa Durga. Mustard oil lamp is lit. At the end, the mantra of Maa Durga ‘Om Dun Durgaayi Namah’ is chanted.
Magh Gupta Navratri is considered a special festival of meditation, penance and worship of inner power, which is celebrated secretly and with full devotion.
