A major and welcome initiative has been launched for EPS (Employees' Pension Scheme) pensioners. Now, elderly pensioners will no longer need to go to the bank, the EPFO office, or even own a smartphone to submit their Digital Life Certificate. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has partnered with India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) to launch a free doorstep service, under which postmen will visit pensioners' homes to create their Digital Life Certificates.
EPFO has launched this new service keeping in mind the convenience of EPS pensioners. Under this service, postmen or postal workers will visit the homes of pensioners whose Digital Life Certificates (DLC) need to be submitted and complete the entire process there. Most importantly, no money will be charged from the pensioner for this service.
Why was this service launched?
According to EPFO's circular dated January 9, 2025, many EPS pensioners face difficulties with technology or mobility.
Many elderly people do not own smartphones.
Some are unable to travel to biometric centers or banks.
Reaching banks or EPFO offices is difficult in remote areas.
Considering these problems, EPFO, in collaboration with IPPB, has launched this doorstep facility so that no pensioner's pension is stopped simply due to procedural difficulties.
What is the process for submitting the Digital Life Certificate?
Under this scheme, a postman or postal worker will visit the pensioner's home and verify their identity through Aadhaar-based biometric or face authentication. The Digital Life Certificate will then be registered, and the entire process will be completed in a secure and simple manner.
EPFO has clarified that no money will be charged from the pensioner for this service. The cost will be borne by EPFO itself, through its Central Pension Processing and Record Centre (CPPRC).
What is a Digital Life Certificate?
A Digital Life Certificate, also known as Jeevan Pramaan, is an online proof that confirms that the pensioner is alive.
It is created using Aadhaar-linked biometric information such as fingerprints or face authentication. Once submitted, it remains valid for one year, and the pension continues without interruption.
Special Facility for EPS Pensioners
The good news for EPS pensioners is that there is no deadline for submitting the life certificate. They can submit their digital life certificate at any time of the year. EPS-95 pensioners can complete this process through banks, CSCs, post offices, IPPB, EPFO offices, the UMANG app, or now even from the comfort of their homes through a postman.
How to Book a Home Visit?
To avail of this free service, pensioners or their family members can register a request by calling the IPPB customer care number. Upon receiving the request, a postman or postal assistant will be assigned, who will visit the pensioner's home at the scheduled time to complete the Digital Life Certificate (DLC) process.
Through this initiative, EPFO aims to ensure that no elderly pensioner is deprived of their pension due to technical or physical difficulties. Government services will reach their homes directly, providing both respect and convenience to senior citizens.
This partnership between EPFO and IPPB is a great relief for EPS pensioners. Now, getting a digital life certificate from home has become easy, safe, and completely free for them.
