Lens Achieves Eight Straight Wins To Reclaim Top Ligue 1 Spot

Lens moved back above defending Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain after a narrow 1-0 home win over Auxerre, secured by Wesley Said's 65th-minute strike.
The result restored first place after Luis Enrique's Paris Saint-Germain had briefly gone top by beating Lille 3-0 on Friday. The match at Stade Bollaert-Delelis stayed tense for long periods, with Pierre Sage's players struggling to create clear chances before half-time. Lens increased the tempo after the interval and finally broke through when Said controlled a cross on the chest and finished clinically from close range. Said's goal proved enough to extend Lens' impressive Ligue 1 sequence. The team have now put together eight straight league victories, the longest winning run in the club's top-flight history. Across Europe's top five leagues, only LaLiga leaders Barcelona are currently on a better streak, with nine successive wins. This strong period leaves Lens on 43 points from 18 Ligue 1 matches in the 2025-26 season, the highest total the club have ever reached at this stage. Since three points for a win was introduced, only three of 18 teams with at least 43 points after 18 Ligue 1 games have failed to become champions.
The tight victory over Auxerre therefore strengthens Lens' position in a competitive Ligue 1 title race, especially after Paris Saint-Germain's strong display against Lille. With a record points tally and a long winning run, Lens have given the club and supporters fresh belief for the remaining 20 league fixtures.
