Bells Fish and Chips in Framwellgate Moor, County Durham, took home last year's honour, though a fresh winner could emerge this time around.
In an exciting development for this year's competition, the top three finalists will embark on an exclusive journey to Iceland, providing them with valuable insights into the Icelandic fishing and seafood sector.
The current title holder now attracts visitors from across the nation keen to sample their offerings, with numerous positive reviews highlighting their "traditional" food and the "friendly" welcome from employees.

Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Friers, added: "The shortlisted 10 are making long-lasting contributions to uphold the great British institution of fish and chips, whether it's with a traditional take or elevated to fine dining status. I have a feeling that Restaurant of the Year is going to be a tough one to separate the winner - all the best to our contenders."
In the realm of superior takeaway fare, last year witnessed three establishments from diverse regions of the UK, spanning from Scotland to Land's End in Cornwall, securing the leading positions.
Yarm Road Fish and Chips in Darlington, County Durham, bagged the top honour, with The Fish Works in Largs, Scotland, hot on its heels in second place. Kellaway's Fish and Chips in Truro, Cornwall, clinched third place, distinguishing itself as a standout takeaway.
