Cow conservation has got a new direction due to the initiative of Yogi government in UP. Green fodder production on encroachment-free pastures has increased. A target has been set for fodder production on 35 thousand hectares of land in the coming two years.

Cow protection in Uttar Pradesh is no longer limited to just schemes and announcements. The impact of the policies of the Yogi government is now clearly visible on the fields, pastures and cow shelter sites. In order to ensure nutritious food for destitute cattle, green fodder is being produced on a large scale on grazing and pasture lands across the state. This initiative is not only improving the health of animals but is also strengthening the rural economy.

To make the grazing and grazing land available in the state useful, the government laid emphasis on removing encroachments in the first phase. Under this, till now 7140.37 hectares of pasture land has been freed from encroachment and green fodder production has been started. Out of the total 61118.815 hectares of grazing and pasture land, this part has emerged as a new hope for animal husbandry. Due to availability of green fodder, the cows preserved in cow shelters are getting balanced and nutritious diet.

Big target of 35 thousand hectares in the next two years

Yogi government has prepared a comprehensive plan keeping in mind the future needs. A target has been set to produce green fodder on 35,000 hectares of encroachment-free and irrigated pasture land in the coming two years. According to Mukesh Meshram, Principal Secretary of Animal Husbandry Department, work is progressing rapidly in this direction. At present hybrid Napier fodder has been sown in an area of 1691.78 hectares, while other green fodder like oats, barseem have been sown in 5448.59 hectares.

Hardoi, Sultanpur, Kanpur Nagar and Rampur districts of the state have emerged as leaders in green fodder production. Good results have been seen in these districts due to better management of pasture land and regular monitoring. Hundred percent green fodder production is being ensured on tagged pasture land, so that there is no negligence at any level.

Development and employment related to MNREGA

MNREGA convergence is also being used effectively in the development of pastures. On one hand, pastures are becoming safe and useful due to works like land leveling, security fence, construction of ditches, and on the other hand, villagers are also getting employment opportunities. This is giving a boost to both animal husbandry and rural livelihood.

Focus on safety of cattle in cold wave

The government is alert not only about fodder production but also about the health and safety of cattle. In view of the cold wave, instructions have been given to cover the cow shelters with gunny bags, put up tarpaulins and ensure other necessary arrangements, so that the animals do not face any problem due to cold.

Message of balanced development with animal welfare

Through pasture development, green fodder production and better arrangement of cow shelters, the Yogi government is giving a clear indication that development in the state does not only mean roads and buildings, but animal welfare is also an equally big priority. This initiative is not only strengthening cattle conservation but also establishing Uttar Pradesh as a systematic and responsible model in the field of animal husbandry.
