Vande Bharat Sleeper: Will I get a refund if I cancel my Vande Bharat sleeper train ticket?
Shikha Saxena | January 19, 2026 2:15 PM CST

Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the country's first Vande Bharat sleeper train yesterday. This train, running between Howrah in West Bengal and Guwahati (Kamakhya) in Assam, will cover a distance of 958 kilometers in 14 hours. The rules regarding tickets and concessions for the Vande Bharat sleeper train are different from those of other trains. There is no RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) facility on this train. Also, only women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and duty pass holders will be eligible for quotas; no other special concessions will apply. Many people are wondering whether they will get a refund if they cancel their Vande Bharat sleeper train ticket.

If you want to know whether you will get a refund upon ticket cancellation, the answer is 'yes', but the rules are much stricter compared to regular trains. A refund will be given, but it will entirely depend on how much time before the train's departure you cancel the ticket. The railways have set three time categories for this. The later you cancel the ticket, the greater your loss will be.

25% deduction if the ticket is cancelled 72 hours in advance

If you have a confirmed Vande Bharat sleeper ticket and you cancel it more than 72 hours before the scheduled departure time of the train, you will not receive a full refund. The railways will deduct 25% of your total fare, and the remaining amount will be refunded to you.

Half the money is deducted if the ticket is cancelled between 8 and 72 hours before departure.
If you change your mind just a few days before your journey, the refund amount will be even less. The rules state that if a confirmed ticket is cancelled between 72 hours and 8 hours before the train's departure time, 50% of the fare will be deducted as a cancellation charge. This means you will only get half the money back.
