Big and small forms of Shiva in India
Biggest Shivling in India: On the soil of India, the form of Lord Shiva resides not only in his vastness but also in his simplicity and humility. At some places Shiva is seated on the highest peak, at other places in his smallest form he gives the message to the devotees that the importance of God is not in size but in feelings. Be it the tall Mahadev established in Motihari in Bihar or the smallest Jyotirlinga Ghrishneshwar located near Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra, both are forms of Shiva.

The tallest and largest Sahastralingam Shivalinga is installed in the Virat Ramayana Temple in East Champaran, Motihari. It is considered to be the world's largest single stone Shivalinga. The height of this Shivalinga is 33 feet and its circumference is also 33 feet. It is made of a single stone of black granite, the total weight of which is about 210 metric tons. While on one hand Mahadev has been established in a huge form in Motihari, on the other hand Mahadev is present in the form of Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga in the area of Ellora caves near Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra. It is considered to be the last and smallest Jyotirlinga among the 12 Jyotirlingas. The carvings on the walls of the temple are an unmatched example of ancient Indian craftsmanship.
Importance of worshiping Shivalinga in Hindu religion
In Hindu religion, Lord Shiva has been given a place among the primary gods of creation. He is a destroyer as well as a compassionate one, a yogi as well as a householder. The most sacred and mysterious form of worship of Lord Shiva is Shivalinga. Worship of Shivalinga is not just an idol worship, but is considered a symbol of deep philosophy of life, consciousness and cosmic energy.
Importance of Jalabhishek
The tradition of offering water, milk, belpatra, Ganga water etc. on Shivalinga is very ancient. According to the scriptures, offering water on Shivalinga calms the mental unrest, removes negative energy and leads to mental and spiritual purification. It is also believed that Lord Shiva is very simple and becomes happy with just a little true devotion.
