A horse racing punter has turned £40 into over £30,000 after landing a weekend windfall from ‘two exceptional bets’. The William Hill customer placed the same three horses running at Newcastle on Friday in treble and patent wagers.

The first horse was the David Evans-trained Supreme King who kicked off proceedings by scoring at odds of 4-1 in dramatic fashion as he prevailed by a nose in the 1:05 race at the Gosforth Park venue.

Attention then turned to the 2:50 race involving another Evans runner King’s Code, which would have been a far more comfortable watch as the selection streaked clear by over two lengths to win at 22-1.

The customer then endured a nervy wait for the final leg of the bet, which did not run until the 7:30 race at Newcastle.

They might have feared the worst as the final selection Ice Opera began to drift in the betting, but the Grace Harris-trained mare was the easiest watch of the lot, making all to win by over three lengths at 22-1 and land £30,500 in total winnings.

The significant drift of Ice Opera worked in the punter’s favour as their winnings increased by nearly £13,000 thanks to Best Odds Guaranteed.

William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps, said: “The feeling of starting the weekend with an extra £30k in your pocket is a hard one to beat, and this racing punter must have been on top of the world after landing substantial returns on Friday’s racing.

“Surprisingly, the first selection Supreme King, the shortest of the three by some way, was the one that would’ve given the punter the most panic as he got up to land the 1:05pm at Newcastle by only a nose.

“Stablemate King’s Code followed in at odds of 22-1, which never looked in doubt despite the price, before Ice Opera completed the outstanding bets when winning at Newcastle.

“Having struck the bet at odds of 12-1, Ice Opera drifted to 22-1 seeing the punter’s returns enhanced by close to £13k due to our Best Odds Guaranteed offer, culminating in a total return of £30,500.

“We can only take our hat off in recognition of these two exceptional bets and pass on our congratulations to the winning punter after their big win.”
