Mumbai: After Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman shared that he is not getting work in Bollywood because of power shifts or maybe communalism, music composer Shankar Mahadevan addressed the issue.
Mahadevan explained that the fate of music always lies with the non-creative teams, who are the decision-makers in the industry.
“See, I’ve always been saying this, I look at it differently. The person who creates the music is one. The person who decides what’s going to happen to this music is a totally another team. This is a musical team; this is a non-musical team. So, what happens is the destiny of your musical product lies with a non-musical person. So, it finds its own destiny,” Mahadevan was quoted as saying by NDTV.
He added that the “disconnect between creation and control has existed for decades.”
Meanwhile, Rahman took to Instagram on Sunday to share a video message, in which he spoke about his strong bond with India, its culture, and its people.
He added that his purpose as an artist will remain unchanged, and his focus will be to serve people through music and not to engage in power debates.
Mahadevan, after winning a Grammy in 2024, has secured two nominations at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
Reacting to the nominations, Shankar exclaimed, “God’s wish.”
