People are incredibly fortunate that they have a myriad of stunning beaches all around the country, and in Essex, it's no different. Essex is surrounded by bustling cities, awe-inspiring countryside vistas, and a plethora of stunning beaches along the coast. However, one beach stands out not only for its beauty but also for its accolades.

Frinton-on-Sea has been honoured with both the Blue Flag award and Tripadvisor's Travellers Choice Award in 2024, placing it among the world's finest. But these aren't the only indicators of its popularity.

The Times' annual list of the top 50 UK beaches also featured Frinton's beach. Chief Travel Writer Chris Haslam embarked on a 4,858-mile journey around British and Northern Irish shores, visiting 756 beaches and 51 resorts.

  • The bustling market town that feels like stepping back in time
  • Village 'forgotten for centuries' next to 'finest view in England'

And one of the best can be found in Essex. Frinton is a favourite among visitors, renowned for its tranquil, immaculate sands that stretch back to a grassy bank, reports Essex Live.

Which? reviewers lauded the beach for being a seaside town rather than a resort. Free from commercialism, it boasts independent shops that add to its local charm.

It's impeccably clean and well-maintained, offering a serene atmosphere devoid of the commercialism typically associated with larger seaside resorts.

The calm waters and secure swimming environment make it perfect for youngsters, whilst the charming beach huts bring a sense of nostalgia and character. Another standout feature of Frinton-on-Sea is its lovely town centre, which radiates an old-fashioned appeal with its tree-lined streets and beautifully maintained architecture.

Connaught Avenue, frequently dubbed the "Bond Street of the East Coast," is home to an array of independent shops, boutiques, and cafes. Chris Haslam commended the Essex town's beach, describing it as "peaceful".

The Times says of the beach: "Once upon a time you went to Clacton to live it up and Frinton to die. Harsh, but true. People called the place 'God's waiting room,' but because Frinton didn't depend on tourism for its upkeep, this clifftop seaside town paid its own bills and thus avoided the slump that has hit its once-flashier neighbour.

"There's one pub - Shepherd Neame's Lock and Barrel - but no arcades, no funfairs and no souvenir shops. Instead you'll find a curving concrete prom with beach huts and a peaceful beach sectioned by wooden groynes.

"I noticed novice kite surfers learning the ropes on the wide clifftop green during my visit. It seems that Frinton is taking off."
